11th Lok Sabha

The 11th Lok Sabha of India was the lower house of the Parliament, constituted following the general elections held in May 1996. It operated from June 1996 to April 1997 and consisted of 545 members, who were elected through direct popular vote across various constituencies in the country. The 11th Lok Sabha was marked by significant political instability, leading to the formation of multiple short-lived governments. At its helm was Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, supported by a coalition of regional and national parties under the United Front banner. The assembly addressed various socio-economic issues, including liberalization, reservation policies, and communal harmony, while also facing challenges related to governance and coalition politics. Its tenure ended with the dissolution of the house in 1997.
