2015 Assam floods

The 2015 Assam floods were a series of devastating floods that affected the northeastern Indian state of Assam during the monsoon season, primarily in July and August. Resulting from continuous heavy rainfall and the resultant rise in the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, the floods led to widespread displacement and damage across 28 districts, severely impacting over 2.3 million people. The floods resulted in significant loss of life, with numerous casualties reported, and extensive destruction of infrastructure, agriculture, and homes. The Indian government, along with various humanitarian organizations, coordinated relief efforts, while the floods highlighted vulnerabilities in disaster preparedness and response in the region. The event underscored the challenges posed by climate change and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in India.
