2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election

The 2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on April 22, 2006, to elect 140 members of the 13th Kerala Legislative Assembly. The election marked a significant political contest between the Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its allies, and the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Indian National Congress. The election was characterized by issues such as governance, development, and social justice, reflecting the electorate's priorities. The LDF emerged victorious, securing 98 seats, while the UDF managed to win 42 seats. This election significantly shaped state politics and led to the formation of a leftist government headed by Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan, signaling a resurgence of leftist influences in the region.
