2005 Kashmir earthquake

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake, also known as the South Asia earthquake, occurred on October 8, 2005, at 08:50 AM Pakistan Standard Time. With a magnitude of 7.6, it primarily affected the Pakistan-administered regions of Azad Kashmir and North-West Frontier Province, while also causing significant damage in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The earthquake resulted in widespread devastation, leading to approximately 86,000 deaths and leaving over 69,000 injured, with millions displaced from their homes. The disaster highlighted the region's vulnerability to seismic activity, prompting national and international humanitarian responses. Reconstruction efforts faced challenges due to harsh winter conditions and geopolitical tensions in the area.
