1997–98 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by-elections

The 1997–98 Tamil Nadu legislative assembly by-elections were a series of electoral contests held to fill vacancies in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. These by-elections occurred after the dissolution of the assembly in 1996 and the subsequent reconstitution in the aftermath of the 1996 general elections. The elections were pivotal in determining the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, dominated by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India, the by-elections witnessed significant campaigning and voter engagement, reflecting the region's vibrant democratic processes. The results impacted governance and party dynamics within the state.
