1992 Indian presidential election

The 1992 Indian presidential election was held on July 14, 1992, marking the election of the country's ninth President. This electoral process was conducted through a system of proportional representation via a single transferable vote among the elected members of both houses of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies of Indian states. The primary candidates were Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, nominated by the Indian National Congress, and the former Union Minister, Dr. B. B. Srikrishna, backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dr. Sharma secured a significant victory, receiving 66.57% of the total votes cast, and subsequently took office on July 25, 1992. His presidency lasted until 1997, during a period marked by political instability and economic reforms in India.
