11th Battalion, CEF

The 11th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), was a unit of the Canadian Army during World War I, established in 1917. Formed primarily from recruits in Canada, the battalion was unique in its deployment to India, where it provided security and support for the British Raj and engaged in various training exercises. Although it never saw combat in Europe, its role in India was significant, contributing to the defense of British interests during a time of global conflict and political unrest in the region. The battalion’s experience in India highlighted the strategic importance of colonial forces and their adaptability in diverse environments. It was disbanded in 1920, following the end of the war.
