2017 Uttarakhand earthquake

The 2017 Uttarakhand earthquake occurred on November 1, 2017, at 11:58 AM IST, registering a magnitude of 5.0 on the moment magnitude scale. The epicenter was located near the town of Gairsain in the Chamoli district, within the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. The quake struck at a depth of 30 kilometers and was felt across various regions, including neighboring states such as Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Preliminary reports indicated minor damages to infrastructure and residential buildings, along with a few injuries; however, there were no confirmed fatalities. The earthquake was attributed to the complex tectonic setting of the Himalayas, where the Indian and Eurasian plates interact. Following the quake, disaster management teams were deployed to assess the situation and provide assistance to affected areas.
