2014 Telangana Legislative Assembly election

The 2014 Telangana Legislative Assembly election was held on May 7, 2014, as part of the first election for the newly formed state of Telangana, carved out of Andhra Pradesh. This election was pivotal in shaping the political landscape of the region post-statehood, which was officially granted on June 2, 2014. The election saw the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) emerging as a dominant force, gaining a significant majority with 63 out of 119 seats. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the leader of TRS, was subsequently sworn in as the first Chief Minister of Telangana. The Indian National Congress and the Telugu Desam Party were among the other prominent parties contesting the election, reflecting the state's complex political dynamics. Voter turnout was recorded at approximately 89%, indicating a robust electoral participation.
