2013 Anti–Sri Lanka protests

The 2013 anti-Sri Lanka protests were a series of demonstrations predominantly occurring in India, arising in response to the perceived human rights violations against Tamils in Sri Lanka during the country’s civil conflict. Triggered by the culmination of the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009 and subsequent allegations of wartime atrocities, the protests gained momentum in early 2013, coinciding with the United Nations Human Rights Council sessions where issues concerning Sri Lanka were discussed. The demonstrations were particularly intense in Tamil Nadu, where activists demanded accountability from the Sri Lankan government and called for international intervention. The protests reflected the longstanding ethnic ties between Tamils in India and Sri Lanka, highlighting regional and political dynamics concerning human rights advocacy in South Asia.
