2007 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election

The 2007 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election was held on March 28, 2007, to elect members of the 70 constituencies of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in India. This election marked the second assembly election since the formation of the state in 2000. The Indian National Congress (INC), led by former Chief Minister Narain Dutt Tiwari, faced significant competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, and other regional parties. The election results saw the BJP securing a decisive victory, winning 34 seats and forming the government, while the INC won 21 seats. The election was notable for its focus on development issues and the implications of regional identity in electoral politics in Uttarakhand.
