2015–2016 Arunachal Pradesh political crisis

The 2015–2016 Arunachal Pradesh political crisis was a significant political conflict in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh that arose over issues of governance and party dissent. Beginning in late 2015, the crisis escalated when the Indian National Congress (INC), which held the majority in the state assembly, faced internal dissent led by former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, culminating in a controversial move by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to stake claim to power. The situation intensified in January 2016 when the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa, unconstitutionally advanced the assembly session, leading to the legislative assembly's suspension and an ensuing constitutional dispute. The Supreme Court of India eventually intervened, reinstating Tuki in July 2016, thereby highlighting the federal complexities of Indian state politics.
