2005 Gujarat flood

The 2005 Gujarat flood was a devastating natural disaster that struck the Indian state of Gujarat between July 26 and 28, 2005. Resulting from unprecedented monsoon rainfall, which exceeded 600 millimeters in 24 hours in some areas, the flood caused widespread destruction across several districts, particularly in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions. Over 1,100 people lost their lives, while millions were displaced, leading to significant humanitarian crises. The floods damaged infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and railways, and adversely impacted agriculture, with large areas of farmland inundated. The Indian government, along with various non-governmental organizations, launched extensive relief and rehabilitation efforts to support affected communities in the aftermath of the disaster.
