12th Lok Sabha

The 12th Lok Sabha of India was constituted on 12 March 1998, following the general elections held in February–March of the same year. This house was formed amid a political landscape characterized by coalition politics, primarily led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which emerged as the largest party, securing 182 seats out of 543. The 12th Lok Sabha was notable for its relatively short tenure, lasting until 26 April 1999, and was marked by significant legislative action, including the introduction of several key reforms. The Speaker of the House was G M C Balyogi. The governance during this period was chiefly defined by economic policies, national security issues, and the strengthening of India's foreign relations, particularly with neighboring countries.
