104th Wellesley's Rifles

The 104th Wellesley’s Rifles, originally formed as the 104th Regiment of Foot, was a prominent infantry regiment of the British Indian Army, established in the early 19th century. Notably recognized for its exceptional service during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the regiment played a crucial role in various military campaigns across the Indian subcontinent. It was distinguished by its use of rifles, setting it apart from traditional regiments and earning a reputation for marksmanship and mobility. The 104th was re-designated as Wellesley’s Rifles in honor of Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington. Over the years, the regiment underwent several structural changes, ultimately contributing to the establishment of modern infantry formations in India.
