2016 Kani earthquake
The 2016 Kani earthquake was a significant seismic event that struck the Kani region in India on April 8, 2016. Measuring 6.7 on the moment magnitude scale, the earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Imphal, Manipur. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 57 kilometers, and aftershocks were reported in the following days. The earthquake caused substantial damage to infrastructure, leading to the collapse of buildings and disruption of essential services, particularly in the northeastern states of India. Despite the severity of the tremor, the region's preparedness and rapid response efforts helped mitigate potential casualties, although there were still reported injuries and loss of life.
