2009 Indian general election in Bihar

The 2009 Indian general election in Bihar was part of the 15th Lok Sabha elections held nationwide from April 16 to May 13, 2009. In Bihar, the election was conducted in two phases on April 16 and April 23, determining all 40 parliamentary constituencies in the state. The election saw a contest primarily between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), spearheaded by the Indian National Congress (INC). The NDA secured a significant victory, winning 32 seats, while the UPA managed to win only 8. The election reflected Bihar’s evolving political landscape and the importance of regional parties in shaping electoral outcomes.
